DKG State Convention at the Penn Stater
Two hundred and nine members from 43 chapters across Pennsylvania recently
gathered at The Penn Stater Conference Center for their PA State Convention June 9-
11, 2022. Eight members from the local Beta Rho Chapter attended and participated
in a variety of ways. The opening leadership strand for incoming chapter presidents
was attended by Pat Carpenter, newly installed Beta Rho president for the next
biennium. The leadership strand for members was attended by Gayle Cobb, Leslie
Gossage, Amy Radford, Cindy Reynolds, Dr. Nancy Simon and Karen Voigt.
Workshops for the two strands were presented by the international second vice
president June Bowers, from Nebraska; past international and Pennsylvania past
president Dr. Lyn Schmid and the Pennsylvania first Vice-president, Royce Boyd.
Amy Radford was one of twelve Pennsylvania members who received Album of
Distinction recognition. She was recognized for a poem which was accepted and
posted on Calla Press, an on-line literary website. Following the reception for the
Album of Distinction, members from across the state enjoyed an ice cream social and
a music bingo with a DJ. Jeanette Saulo is a member of the EEC State Committee
which presented the social activities.
During the first general session, first timer Gayle Cobb served as the flag bearer of the
American flag. Cindy Reynolds presented a check from Beta Rho member Becky
Place and her family for $5,000.00 for five $1,000 scholarships, one each to be
presented over the next five years. Becky has served DKG on all levels of the society
including serving as Pennsylvania state president. She says that DKG has offered
Becky so many opportunities and she wants to pass it on.
During the Celebration Luncheon, Leslie Gossage served as a volunteer and guide for
the convention. During the banquet on Friday evening, Gayle Cobb and Cindy
Reynolds sang in the chorus which provided the musical entertainment. Cindy was
also recognized by DKG PA President Eileen Little for creating the watercolor painting
used for the cover of the convention booklet. Members Donna Biglin and Amy
Radford along with three other Pennsylvania members had their photographs that
were posted on the International Gallery of Art website printed as note cards for the
banquet favor.
The Celebration of Life service on Saturday morning recognized all Pennsylvania
DKG sisters who passed away over the past year. A lovely breakfast buffet followed
the service and then scholarships and enrichment grants were presented to members
from across the state. Cindy Reynolds then presented the original painting she did for
the convention booklet cover, matted and framed, to President Eileen. On the back of
the frame she included photos of the four versions she created which led to the one
that was selected and used.
